COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Increase awareness of current trends in aging population statistics, lifestyle choices, and personal life goals of an aging population.
  2. Understand cost effective geriatric assessment tools applicable to older adults in healthcare and community settings.
  3. Provide successful therapeutic interventions to provide older adults with meaningful and purposeful activities.
  4. Explain understanding of geriatric comorbidities and their implications for developing frailty in community dwellers.
  5. Utilize effective outcome measures appropriate for geriatric clients for improved documentation and reimbursement.
  6. Discuss opportunities for intergenerational collaboration to reduce social isolation and improve life satisfaction for both older adults and young people.

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT: 

Occupational Therapists (NC) – This 6.0 CE continuing competency activity meets the requirements set forth in Section .0800 of the Rules of the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.

Physical Therapists (NC):  Prior to the Covid-19 situation, this workshop had been approved by the NC Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, 6.0 hours.  It is now being offered in an on-line interactive seminar.  Please read notice below.

Per the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiner Website 4/1/2020:

Continued Competence points may be obtained electronically as described below:  
21 NCAC 48G .0109 CONTINUING COMPETENCE ACTIVITIES
(a) Continuing Education activities are eligible for points as follows:
(1) …The maximum number of points allowed during any reporting period for an interactive course offered through electronic media shall be 15.
(4) For registered participation in a non-interactive course offered by an approved provider by videotape, satellite transmission, webcast, DVD, or other electronic media, one hour of participation earns one point. The maximum number of points allowed during any reporting period shall be 10.
(8) For completion of a home study physical therapy program furnished by an approved provider, one hour of home study earns one point. The maximum number of points during any one reporting period allowed shall be 10.

All continuing competence requirements and deadlines remain in place.  The Board may not extend deadlines or waive continuing competence requirements without rule changes approved by the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings.  Licensees are encouraged to be diligent in scheduling and utilizing electronic continuing competence courses in light of COVID-19.

Speech Pathologists – This workshop has NOT been submitted for ASHA credit.  See the NC Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists for acceptance of CE Credit.

Other healthcare professionals – This course may qualify for 6.0 continuing education hours as required by national, state and local licensing boards and professional organizations.  It is the participants' responsibility to contact their board or organization for specific filing requirements.  

Supportive Aging is not responsible for non-acceptance of CE credit.  Keep your certificate of attendance and course outline as record of successful completion.

Satisfactory completion requires signing in and out of the course with full attendance, completion of course evaluation and receipt of course certificate.  Failure to comply will result in no credit for the course, with no exceptions or refunds.
